AI Slop: What It Means, Where the Word Came From & Why It’s Everywhere
AI slop, also called slop content or simply slop, refers to digital content made using Artificial Intelligence. It generally describes low-effort, mass-produced digital content, such as AI-generated text, images, videos, and other content created using online AI tools.
For example, with text-to-video AI tools, users can create videos simply by giving a prompt, sometimes with very little human effort involved.
The word “slope”
has a different meaning. In mathematics and science, slope is a number that measures the steepness and direction of a line. It tells us how quickly a line goes up or down as we move from left to right.

However, not every piece of AI-generated content is necessarily “AI slop.” The term is mainly used when people want to criticize content that is considered low-effort, repetitive, mass-produced, or lacking originality.
